Waterline Back to Waterline

Privacy

Last updated 15 October 2026 · applies to wtrline.com and the Waterline app for Android

Waterline never asks for bank logins, card numbers or account numbers, and it has no connection to any bank. Everything in your plan is something you typed in yourself. There is no advertising, no analytics and no tracking.

The short version

WhatWhyWhere it's kept
Your plan: income, bills, dates, categories, debts, balanceTo show your budget and forecastOn your device. Also in your account, if you create one
Backups of your planSo an accident can be undoneOn your device only
Email addressTo sign you in, only if you create an accountYour account
NameTo greet you, only if you sign in with GoogleYour account

That is everything Waterline stores. It is never sold, never used for advertising, and never shared except with the service providers listed below that run the site.

If you don't create an account

Your plan and its backups stay in your browser's storage on that device. Nothing about your plan is sent to us, and we cannot see it. Clearing your browser's site data, or using Delete all my data, removes it.

If you create an account

We store your email address to sign you in, and your plan so it follows you to other devices. If you sign in with Google, Google tells us your name and email address; we use the name only to say hello. We do not send marketing email.

The names you give your bills and income are free text, so please don't type anything into them that you wouldn't want stored.

Backups are kept on the device you made them on. They are not uploaded to your account. Download backup file gives you a copy you can store wherever you like.

The Android app

The Waterline app for Android opens wtrline.com in Chrome, full-screen. It collects nothing beyond what the website does, as described on this page. The app asks for no device permissions beyond internet access, and it has no access to your contacts, photos, location or other apps. Chrome's own privacy policy covers the browser itself.

Who runs it for us

All traffic is encrypted in transit using HTTPS, and plans saved to an account are encrypted at rest. The security page explains how your plan is protected.

What we don't do

How long we keep it

Your plan is kept until you delete it. Accounts with no sign-in for two years may be removed along with their data.

Deleting your account and data

You can delete your data yourself at any time, on the website or in the Android app:

  1. Open the account menu in the top-right corner.
  2. Choose Delete account to remove the plan saved in your account and sign out, or Delete all my data to remove everything from your account and from this device, including its backups.

Deletion from the database is immediate. To have the sign-in record itself (your email address) removed as well, or if you can no longer sign in, email privacy@wtrline.com from the address on the account, with the subject Delete my Waterline account. We will delete the account and all associated data within 30 days and confirm by reply. Nothing is kept afterwards.

Your rights

Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA), you can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or withdraw your consent. Email us and we will respond within 30 days.

Children

Waterline is a personal finance tool for adults. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

What this tool is not

Waterline projects forward from figures you supply. It does not know your real bank balance, cannot see pending transactions, and does not account for interest, fees or overdraft charges on your accounts. It is a planning aid, not financial advice, and not a substitute for a licensed advisor.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date at the top will change and signed-in users will be told by email.
